Each day we endeavour to give every student the opportunity to be successful and to develop a love for learning. Cherokee has a dynamic and knowledgeable staff who guide our students on a journey of discovery as they tackle a challenging curriculum. Every child has the potential to learn and it is our commitment to provide all students with the opportunity to achieve to their potential.
Integrating Technology
The teachers at Cherokee naturally integrate the use of technology into their teaching. Many lessons are taught with a Smart Board. This allows teachers to present interactive lessons where students and teachers can manipulate objects and text on screen, view relevant video clips, and do internet research. There is currently a Smart Board in every homeroom teaching area/pod. Primary classes share 40 iPads and 25 laptops, while junior classes share 30 iPads and 30 laptops. Every classroom also has 1-3 desktop computers in their room.
Character Education and TPS Programs
One of the most important goals of education is to develop and nurture responsible, caring and respectful citizens. Each month teachers focus on a different Character Trait (Respect, Responsibility, Empathy, Kindness & Caring, Teamwork, Fairness, Honesty, Co-operation, Integrity, Perseverance). Students regularly demonstrating these traits are rewarded with a ribbon. We work with The Toronto Police Services to offer additional programming such as street proofing, and cyber bullying.

What Sets Us Apart
Cherokee Public School is a small school and this perhaps is our greatest asset. As a small school we enjoy the benefits of a close nit community of staff, students and parents. Cherokee is a warm and nurturing environment. Teachers know their students, and the students of other classes. As a result there are very few discipline problems.
Parent and Community Engagement
Parents are involved in the school through School Council, as library and classroom helpers, and as trip supervisors. Parents are invited to attend several events over the course of the year, events such as Curriculum Night, the Welcome to Kindergarten presentation, and Concerts. Parents are also welcome to attend daytime events such as the Remembrance Day Assembly and monthly Character Award Assemblies. Each year Cherokee hosts several student teachers, and ECE placement students and therefore has close connections to a variety of Universities and Community Colleges. Cherokee supports several charities both locally such as the Harvest Food Bank, and globally such as WE organization, supporting communities around the world. Cherokee has a close connection to the Toronto Police Services who provide educational programming to our students each year.
