"Making A Difference In Our World"
Maurice Cody Public School (JK-6) was built in 1928 on Belsize Drive in the North Toronto area. The closest major intersection is Davisville and Bayview. The school has 606 students, the majority of whom come from homes where English is the first language. The school shares facilities with Toronto Parks and Recreation. Together with Parks and Recreation, we built the first Adventure Playground in 1975. We have a grassed school yard which features the Discovery Gardens - a council ring, a spiral garden, and a meadow woodland garden. The school also houses the Maurice Cody Child Care and the Maurice Cody Community Centre.
Computer Literacy
In the past 3 years, our community has worked together to construct a computer lab which enables students to become more computer literate and to apply this learning to the curriculum. We continue to use Smartboards at most grade levels to also enhance student learning and to allow the varying learning needs of our students to be addressed through the integration of technology. Our library has a new integrated mini-Mac lab for student use. Our new addition will be wireless and everyone is excited to have the latest technologies at our fingertips.
Student Life - Where You Belong
There is certainly a great deal going on here at Maurice Cody. Students from kindergarten to grade 6 can get involved in a variety of activities. This year, our staff and parents have worked cooperatively with Parks and Recreation to offer after school programs and activities exclusively for our students. Whether one's interest is art, sports, music, dance or drama, there is something for everyone to enjoy! Our grade 6 students are true leaders as many take on the role of Student Ambassadors. They assist students in the playground through peer mediation and help out at many special school events.
What Sets Us Apart
Maurice Cody Public School is a school in the heart of the city with a growing student population. Though many schools within the Toronto District School Board are experiencing a decrease in enrolment, our school continues to grow. Our school is a community school which is under an ARC (Area Review Committee) because of our growing needs. This year alone, our school will have a second kindergarten playground added at the front of the school and have an addition of 2 new classrooms built to help with our increasing enrolment. We are very excited about this new addition as it will be wireless and have many of the latest technologies.
