Rosedale Junior Public School has been providing a high level of academics, artistic enrichment and community involvement for the children of Rosedale and nearby neighbourhoods for over a century. Founded in 1891, the kindergarten through grade six community school was re-constructed to its present location in 1957. Our school's motto, "integrity and scholarship" is evidenced in our school's safe and nurturing environment. The parents, who are very involved with the schooling of their children, work closely with the staff in mutual advocacy for happy, healthy children who take pride in being independent learners, well-informed citizens and responsible leaders.
Sports programs
Fully committed to healthy bodies, lifestyles and minds, our enthusiastic teachers take pride in encouraging the participation and accomplishment of our students in a variety of sports such as flag football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, slo pitch and hockey. The Arts
We are committed to furthering our development of an extensive Arts program which includes partnerships with professional authors and illustrators, Prologue for the Performing Arts and Mariposa in the Schools. We offer a strings program for our grade 5 and 6 students, have an itinerant music teacher who visits weekly and a resident music teacher on staff specializing in school wide musical productions. Under the direction of our renowned instructor, students in our widely acclaimed steel pan orchestra participate in both school events and international festivals.

Student Leadership and Community Outreach
Our student council works with the teaching staff and School Council to support various fundraising initiatives affiliated with Free the Children, Jump Rope for Heart, The Yonge Street Mission and Sick Kids Hospital.
Technology
With the support of our School Council and the school charity Friends of Rosedale (FOR) , we have been able to incorporate interactive white boards in every class, 30 Chromebook computers and a minimum of 3 iPad mini's per room to enrich our classroom programs and improve student learning. Students have the use of a full computer lab housed in the library.
School Wide Events
Each year, we highlight the artistic talents of our students in an art show culminating in an evening event. Our choir performs at various events. Pan in the Park and a spring music concert are annual events. Grade 5 and 6 students also enjoy overnight excursions to The Island School, Sports Camp and/ or to Ottawa.
Safe and Caring Learning Environment
Our Code of Behaviour, which focuses on the peaceful resolution of problems through self respect and co-operation, is practiced through the combined guidance of our parents, staff, students, and student council. Second Steps, a bullying prevention program helps to reinforce the TDSB character education traits.

Student Life - Where You Belong
Rosedale is an exciting place! While emphasis remains on curriculum initiatives, we strive to maintain a balance among the arts, sports and academic subjects. With annual musical productions involving choirs, steel pan and strings, students connect their learning to the real world. Junior and primary classes work together with reading buddies, Read Aloud Book Club and Silver Birch reading club. They take part annually in the Colleen Murphy Short Story Contest and contribute poetry to TDSB's Urban Voices publication. Every May, student interns from various faculties of education work with our children as part of our Write On program.Track and Field and Cross Country are available to every child while inter school teams are open to grade 5 and 6 students. Chess, Lego and various activities are offered as lunch time programming in the winter months.
What Sets Us Apart
With over 260 students, we offer an intimate environment for learning. A close working relationship with our elected school council allows us to run many activities together such as Steel Pan for all grades, community dinners followed by Curriculum Night, pizza lunches, Scientists in the School and Prologue for The Arts. As a responsible member of the community, we initiated a Kiss N' Go program in partnership with Toronto Police Services. For the past year, parent and student volunteers have been working together to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and the safe arrival of students every morning. Teachers have participated in our Critical Learning Pathways and Professional Learning Community to improve and guide instruction by using data on student learning. The School Council runs a daily hot lunch program.
Parent and Community Engagement
Our vibrant Student Council, supports and encourages extensive parent and community involvement. Volunteers help us to support: Intergenerational connections (senior citizens and grade 1-2 students) Class support with Scientists in the School and field trips Committees: safety, yearbook, graduation, library Enriched lunch time programs (chess, snow soccer, co-operative games) Family Math and Literacy Nights Family BBQ's and multicultural dinners Pizza lunches every week The fundraising events help to support and enrich Steel Pan instruction for all students and allow us to expand the use of technology throughout the school. Through the support of the parent body, the safe arrival program " Kiss N' Go" has proven to provide a solution to early morning traffic congestion, allowing students to arrive safely for school.
