The mission statement of Edgewood, a JK to 8 composite school with a continuing tradition of personal excellence, is to provide an environment of co-operation which allows each student to realize individual potential through involvement in responsible decision making, risk taking and creative thinking. Geographically, Edgewood School is located in a community with many unique characteristics such as the Birkdale ravine. Our school has a long, supportive history with all members of the community enabling students to gain the knowledge and skills required of them to become active and contributing participants in a democratic society.

Parenting and Family Literacy Centre
In September 2008, Edgewood P.S. received a Parenting and Family Literacy Centre. The centre is open Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for parents/caregivers and children (0-5 years). The program allows children to develop readiness skills and allows caregivers to connect and share experiences.
Partners in Action
Classroom teachers collaborate with our teacher-librarian to plan innovative lessons that align with classroom units of study and our School Improvement Plan. Benefits to our students include working simultaneously with two teachers and working in an inquiry model to ensure maximum learning in our new experiential lab and learning commons.
Social Justice Initiatives
Our goal is for students to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to become contributing participants in a democratic society. Our social justice initiatives prepare students to understand the world, and to know each person can make a difference. Students gain valuable leadership skills, through the Me to We, Future Aces and Random Acts of Kindness initiatives.
Support for All Students
Our learning community believes every child can and will learn. As a result our classroom support and intervention programs ensure the support of every child. From kind, caring expert staff and support staff to various educational supports (Reading Recovery, ESL, HSP, SERT, Int.Communications, KIP, Diagnostic, Aisling) we endeavour to set up each child for success.

Student Life - Where You Belong
Edgewood P.S. offers many wonderful opportunities for all learners. They include: Co-curricular activities: basketball, volleyball, bordenball, soccer, slo-pitch, cross country, drama, track and field, ecoschools club, Student School Council, Me to We. Programs to support instruction: anti-bullying programs, Future Aces (Character Development), Scientists in the Schools.
What Sets Us Apart
In the Spring of 2008, Edgewood P.S. applied for status with the TDSB Eco-schools initiative. We were granted GOLD and we continue to work to maintain this achievement. Community members, parents, students and staff all play key roles in our eco-awareness through our recycling teams, litterless lunches, golden shoe award for Walking Wednesdays, energy detectives and our "Get Sweatered" initiatives. At Edgewood P.S. we are committed to being respectful of our environment.
Parent and Community Engagement
We are proud of the positive partnership with our parents and guardians. Various community activities include:
- Participating in an Annual Terry Fox Run
- Fostering the relationship with our school liaison police officer
- Liaising with Donwood Park Junior PS, David & Mary Thomson, Bendale BTI and other schools to support transition initiatives
- Supporting Birkdale Community Centre and Birkdale Residence
- Hosting co-op students from Centennial College and various secondary schools
- Maintaining an effective School Council
- Volunteer opportunities in the classrooms, library and class trips
- Supporting and driving school teams
- Providing free Movie Nights to students and parents, curriculum focus nights and parenting presentations
